I have been shooting RAW and converting to jpeg using DPP.

On the Animal/Nature forum someone said they used Adobe Camera program in PS Elements to convert their RAW files. It certainly does give a good range of options. However, the <save as> only allows you to save a file as a .dgn format.

Help required. :help::help: How to I convert the .dgn file to jpeg?

John

If you are using Adobe Camera Raw you may have a problem with Photoshop 7, as I believe the first version of Photoshop to support this plug in was Photoshop CS.

Hi,

I have Photoshop CS. I also bought PSE7 recently, thats were I have used the ACR that simply produces a .dng file that neither PS CS, or PSE7 can load.

Any help, gratefully received on this one.

John

You may need to add/update Photoshop for dng files. Simply go to the " Help" menu and select update . This will download the update and install it for you. You need the 2.4 version of ACR which is I believe the latest version for CS.

One comment about update, it will look for ALL adobe software updates, including Acrobat etc. So if you don't want to down load these deselect them from the download dialogue box

I don't have elements but I think you have to open the image properly in elements to get all the save as options, you can only save the raw as DNG in ACR, you should have the option to open as tiff or jpeg (in elements). Wayne

Yes, that's about right.
I have PSE7.

I shoot in raw and simply double clicking on the downloaded files opens them in Adobe Camera Raw (PSE7 came with the necessary plugins).

When you have finished editing a file click on OPEN at the bottom RH corner.

When the file opens go to File, then Save As.
Now open the drop down menu to reveal all the various file types.
You can then select jpeg, tiff etc.

Arclight,

Thanks for the reply. I have been able to follow your instructions. It doesn't seem logical that after carrying out an edit you choose the Open tab (which operates like a transfer) and this puts it into PSE7. I can now save as any file extension.

I do prefer Photoshop CS, perhaps because its familiar. I can now open either a .psd or .jpeg in CS.

Again, thanks for the help.

John

That's computer programs for you. Some are not logical - like clicking on Start when you want to Shut Down.

It's because ACR is working with the raw image, it can't save all the ajustments in an editable form in a jpeg, so it offers DNG which is a sort of raw file itself (closer to a tiff in truth but there you go) this means you can make an editable copy with your ajustments without opening photoshop proper.
Why there isn't an option for a "baked in ajustment" jpeg is anybodies guess, to be honest the very plug-in nature of ACR leaves a lot to be desired. Wayne

Wayne,

Thanks for your input. In Elements 7 the open tab takes the edited version of the .CR2 file back to the main editing program. I then save it and open it up in Photoshop CS. I do this simply because I am familiar with CS and some of the tools are better, for example the curves.

I am pleased with the resulting images.
