PS Workspace on Mac

Hi,

Might be a simple answer to this one, but can anyone tell me if i can set up Photoshop (cs4 or 5) to launch with a black or grey b/g?
To try and explain a little clearer, when i launch an image in PS, i can still see any other application or the desktop in the background. I then have to click the view option to get the image onto a black b/g. Not a hardship i know, but would be nice not to have to do it everytime.

Hi James,

If you go to View -> Screen Mode -> Full Screen Mode with Menu Bar that should do the trick, or are you already doing this?

I usually just drag the corner of the window to fill the whole screen.

yes this is what i am currently doing, what i am trying to find out is if there is a way of setting up PS to do this automatically everytime i open and image

Look in Preferences/Interface. You'll find options to set things up there. I prefer full screen mode and have it set to a mid grey background

If you check/tick it, it will open every time with the grey background as default.

There's a really good way to do this... it involves a few steps, but it is worth the effort.
Basically not only will you get a grey bg, but it will maximise your pic to the available size without having palletes hide your image. It will do it to every image you open in PS.

You need to create an action..

Hit record then.. from the action pallete pull down menu choose 'insert menu item...'
Now choose.. View > Screen Mode > Standard Screen Mode
Then choose insert menu item again and choose...
View > Fit on Screen
then insert menu item again and choose...
View > Screen Mode > Full Screen Mode with Menu Bar.

Now stop the action.

Now go to File > Scripts > Scripts Event Manager
Tick > Enable events to run scripts/actions
In Photoshop Event pull down, choose 'Open Documents'
Select the actions check box. and choose the action you just created.
Then hit the 'Add' button on the right, then 'Done'


Now everytime you open a picture it will perform that action.
