PS filter problem

Has anyone any idea why the lighting effects filter in PS6 remains greyed out when trying to work on an 8bit RGB file with a size of approx. 5000 x 3000 pixels on an unlocked layer with no adjustments layers present.

I've tried to effect every solution I can think of but remain :bang:

Files from a Canon 550 some pre processed from RAW others not..any help most welcome

eeeer no problem really..for anyone interested I had unchecked use graphic processor in the performance tab in preferences.. once I had re- checked working fine
