Hi

Is there a way to select a shape in elements (10) then make the selection have grab handles so you can pull and push it out of shape?

As example say I have the letter T shown in the pic here on the left, how could I distort it to look like the T on the right?

Ta for any enlightenment

i just tried it by right clicking the 'T' for text icon and selecting 'horizontal type mask tool'.

Type your text, say ok then click the move tool (v). Select your individual letter, then click 'image>transform' and select whichever does the job best... distort, perpective, free transform.

because this is a mask layer text, you will need to fill in the colour of the text if required. Not sure if this is what you want or not - but worth a look

Thanks Leigh

I tried that and I just get a rectangular bounding box around the 'T', for the distort, skew, perspective etc. So I still couldnt move the inner corners of the T around so to speak. I dont think its possible in elements to do it? Where's ZeroCool or Wayne when you need them? :D

Try putting your letter on a blank background, flatten, duplicate, select (quick selection or magnetic lasso), distort, then kill the background layer and you should be left with the distort?

Thanks Leigh

gotcha. i see what you mean. Hmm.. maybe Jon's idea works.. i'm struggling apart from that

Not quite sure what you're trying to achieve, Leigh. If it's a fairly simple shape, would it be easier to paint bits on to get the effect? Do it on a separate layer, nice and big so's you can see what you're doing, then shrink it & drag it onto the main image?

There is no way to get the shape you want with the transform tool.

If you wish to do it to a type layer there are three ways to do this.

In both cases simplify the layer > Layer > Simplify Layer.

Your two options are then.

1 select the liquify tool and use that.

2- Control click on the T layer to make it a selection then use the lasso tool/s set to "add to selection" to make the shape you want.

Then go to edit > Fill layer and choose black.

3-Or paint it onto the simplified type layer using a brush
