Props and costumes

Hello photographers!
I want to start taking some portraits and am looking into getting 'costumes' and 'props'
First one i want is some old fashioned clothing for my nephew to wear.
Was hoping to tap into the pool of knowledge on here and see if anyone know's any cheap ways of acquiring this kind of stuff.

Round here we've got a number of props shops, but I don't know how expensive they usually are.

I've not done any costume work, but you could try charity shops-you never know what you might find in there!

Not sure where you are in the world but in London plenty of film & TV hire places, as well as fancy dress.

My main concern would not to make the images too twee, to chocolate box and sugary as that's been done to death before.
