Shot doesn't look extremely sharp to me James, maybe my eyes though. You need to give your sensor a bit of a clean.

Yep not as sharp as it could be but just took a quick shot just for the lighting.:)

Apologies James. Obviously didn't read your post properly :bang: My experience with lighting maybe excludes me from further comment. But it looks good to me. Only place you are losing detail through lighting is the front of the buttons. Maybe a reflector of some sort could even it out?

Yep reflectors might help, not really tried any on it yet,all ideas welcome.

The shot is very poor, poorly focused, poorly lit

try this - google: "darkfield lighting"
try this - use a sheet of black fabric or paper, cut a hole in the fabric that is slighty smaller than the base of the crystal. light crystal from underneath (you will need additional lighting, that ought to be directional and controlled (use pieces of card with slits cut in it to control the light

The focus i know about was just messing with lighting, tried the black card but the wife hated it,cheers anyway.:)

Richard's advice would make it look like swarovski not something won at a fairground.....

If thats supposed to be sarcastic then dont bother

I'd thought you will get far better images using a black background, with white background you'll not make the crystals standout anywhere as good as the black IMO

then why did you post it, focussing takes <1sec and defines the shadows and **** so we can see if the light is making it soft or if focus has been missed

don't be defensive, people are trying to help. Yes its a crap photo, but my first few goes at this stuff were awful.

Try a sheet of black perspex ........... works wonders
