Product Photography/Lighting

Same here, the rest look like the lighting is more important than the product.

You've got a long, long way to go if you don't understand that the lighting is more important than the product:'(
That doesn't mean that it's the only thing that matters, it's basically a mixture of positioning, background choice, emphasis on the benefits, camera height and so on - but the lighting is the one thing that brings it all together and makes even the least interesting of subjects exciting.

Not sure if this is my best to date.
Yes, it's the best by far and ticks all the boxes

Do you not think that the name board above the cab blends into the background? I understand that you sell lighting for a living, but that seems to me over lit, or lit with no subtlety.

p.s. 35 years making a living from professional studio photography until I sold my business.

Thanks, after being shot down in flames I thought I must be wrong!

Agree, looks too harsh to me, but I don't have professional's eyes.

I don't sell lighting for a living, I light for a living.

That image isn't subtle, but then very few product shots are. It's been produced by an absolute beginner with no real equipment and no understanding of light - I think he's ended up with something to be proud of, even if it isn't subtle and isn't perfect.

Thank you all for your input, thanks Garry for a lot of advice i will think of this as a good starting point now.
In the last photo i have taken away my 430ex11 & softbox & just used my cheap YN-465 flash from the front left, very surprised with the results really.:)

Trying new fields for my first time.:)

It would be good if you described your set up with each photo as some look very similar and also we can learn from your successes and mistakes!

you need to control the reflection from the rest of the room - they are very evident in the glass, and overpowering the shot. I guess the shot is under exposed, and it is being pushed in PP

This was done after the light went outside & no domestic lights were on,just the flash from behind through the softbox & very little PP, i deliberately under exposed a bit just to see the results.:)

your softbox is also lighting the rest of the room! that light is bouncing about, and coming straight back into your shot. This is easy to remedy - put something between the product, and the back of the room - big sheet of black card will do the trick

Yep still experimenting as such but always glad to hear of any suggestions.:)

I think i am finally quite happy with most of the product lighting now,i think.:D
