I am ready to take a couple of 5x4 shots and have fomapan 100 in the dark slides. I have bought a FR DT500 developing tank which holds a dozen cut films for 5x4 which is a good match for my six darkslides. Hear lie's a potential problem,

Having carried out a couple of test fills of the empty tank, its on the slow side filling for the required volume so I have convinced myself that a longish developing time may be needed to avoid potential problem around the uneven developing scenario and thought that if I aim for 20 plus minutes may get around that.

HC100 at 130-1 should give me around that time, obviously i dont want to wreck a whole bunch of negatives by using an unknown combination of both developer dilution and time.

Can I load one film and develop it, asses the negative and then use the same solution to develop the rest when I am more or less happy.

Yes you should be ok if you don't keep the made up solution too long, as in days or weeks, a few hours will be fine.
 
I have a Yankee tank which appears to be the same, apart from the name. Other names for what appears to be the same design exist. Had I known, you could have had mine.

12 sheets is good, if you shoot a lot of film. Otherwise, it takes a lot of chemicals, is indeed slow to fill and empty, and in the event of a mishap, 12 sheets are lost... As a young man, you should have no trouble handling the tank. But inversion agitation - a no go given the lid.
 
I'd just develop normally, you can find the data sheets on Foma's website or with a google and they build contrast very quickly, the slow fill might actually work in your favour for this film. Even if that wasn't the case I'd keep everything constant and do it one by one

I'd also advise shooting everything and assuming your first box won't be great but you will build up lots of muscle memory and improvements to your workflow as you go, Foma scratches very easily for me so be gentle and enjoy

Id also develop all the negs at once, the quicker you make mistakes the quicker you can fix them, if you care about these shots , then go take 4 -6 more and develop those first

my understanding is that increasing the development time would mitigate to some extent the slow fill rate and if i do not like the result I can adjust development time after the first one,

In 35mm I use Rodinal for 6 1/2 minutes and a one minute fill and empty would make a right balls of it
 
Yeah usually it would, what are the times for that concentration? I can't see it being an issue unless you have super short times, looking at your concentration though I don't think it will matter. Yeah your example 1/6.5 minutes is a significant amount.

I'd leave it as it is as first and it needs more then say increase 10-20% time until you get to where you are happy. Your one sheet practice is doing this already for you in a sense

Have you practiced filled it? Looking at an ebay listing seems it has 2 holes in the lid which would negate the slow filling as the air has somewhere else to escape unlike a patterson tank which is all through the same hole

First misser as usual,

was the tank practical in use? any faults ?

times are calculation by me,

listed is 1/63 for ten so i have estimated half the dilution and double the time!
