I am new to the site and thought I'd post a first picture for critique, but after creating a thread in the relevant forum and writing a little bit of blurb, when I came to upload the picture from my pictures, the below error message came up. I did as requested, going back and refreshing several times, but with the same result. The photograph is a normal jpeg of 9.6mb, I had thought that perhaps it was too large, but if that is so, I have no idea what size it ought to be - but again, I would have thought that if that were the case, the error message would tell me? Any help very gratefully received!

Cheers,

Karl

As Ken said, I would host from flickr.
Thanks for that, though I still don't know what the problem may have been - I will post any future candidates to flickr first and link from there. Much appreciated. Karl

If you're not keen on hosting with Flickr, you could use http://www.tinypic.com , upload from there, grab the direct URL for "layouts" then paste it in your thread using the image icon.

From the up load guides

Before you get started, please note :-
Images up loaded to your gallery must not exceed 1024px on the longest side, nor 350Kb
or you will get an error message.

If attaching a file direct from your PC / device, into a thread.
this must not exceed 1024px on the longest side or 350Kb
otherwise it will fail to up load.

And please beaware that some people are still on slow connections and will soon click away
if the image takes to long to load
200-500kb is plenty large enough anything approaching 1Mb is considered "excessive"
