Yes
Just recently (last couple of days) my screen goes a transparent colour of grey starting at the top and working down and freezes especially when using Safari.

An error message then appears saying

"You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button, then press power button again"

Anyone else experienced this with their Mac or know what might be happening. I have scanned the computer and no viruses have been detected.

Thanks in advance.
Mick

Sounds like a Kernal Panic. Usually as a result of some dodgy piece of hardware. I had this with an express card reader

Just make suer you have the latest version of the OS loaded, just in case this might make a difference. You might also like to check you have the latest version of Safari installed.

If you have any external components added, remove these and see if you get the same result. If not, add each component one at a time, and see which if any causes the problem.

If it still persist run Disk Utility and run "Repair Disk" to see if this helps

I'd also download a copy of Firefox and see if this causes the same probem.

Thanks for the reply much appreciated.
Yes I did notice the words Kernal Panic in the error report that was generated. The only piece piece of hardware is an external drive (my Passport type) which I backup my files to which hasn't up until now appeared to cause any problems. According to my updater I have the latest OS installed.

Once again thanks for your input gratefully received.

I didn't know about this and I don't recall being offered this at the time of purchase.

As an aside I have run the disk utility and everything appears to be fine so maybe the external drive has caused this problem as this is the only piece of hardware attached.

You might want to run Disk Utility over the backup drive and see if this cause of the problems.

As I suggested then disconnect the drive and see if that cures things.

Thanks for the replies it appears to be running OK now.
