This was my problem another member mentions some time ago.
I have a Nikon D800 and with using A 24-70mm lens when trying to video all I got was a lot of refocusing noise from the lens area. This is because the inbuilt mic. is right along side the offending lens.
the 3 holes are for intrnl mic.
So ok I thought try an extrn mic mounted on the hotshoe. So I mounted my Sennheiser MK400 mic and tried again

No good still too close to the lens, so head scratching starts. I have an idea , get one of those small extn mounts but still too close see below picture.

Now for some serious head scratching and started searching the web for a long extn bar that I could use, but they are all twin mounts which i didn't want so there has to be another solution. What did i have already so i didn't have to spend any money? Ah this came to mind. My pistol grip might just work so I put all three together

Needed 3 washers to tighten up the grip to mic as packing
and got as far as this

Yes I know it looks silly but has not cost me anything I already had every thing. Cost wise around £10 in total for the grip and extender as i said already had. At least I have got the mic away from the lens noise hopefully
.
. AS it is now dark I will have to try it out tomorrow, but it may just work. What do members think about it?
