Hi,

Question, why is it that when I save my tiff as jpeg in photoshop it gives the option to tick (icc profile: adobe rgb) and not srgb but i persume that unticking is srgb that's what's the problem, if I save as new file and compare files the unticked save as image up against original looks less colourful?

Why is this as I have to change to srgb for lab

If you un tick the embedded profile option then the profile details are not encoded into the TIFF file. There is no profile for Photoshop to use, so it goes to it's default setting which I think is either sRGB or the monitor profile. The reason the image looks flat is that the RGB values are for Adobe RGB, but as Photoshop has no idea what colour space they refer to, so it simply uses the default colour space and applies those numbers to it. As AdobeRGB is a larger colour space than either sRGB or probably your monitor the colours look subdued

If you go to the colour settings option in Photoshop and tick the profile error boxes at the bottom of the page Photoshop will alert you if a profile is missing or there is a mismatch

Let's say I edit a tiff file in photoshop as it is a adobe rgb file as u know and want to eg resize and save as jpeg when I click save as a window opens that's states what format obviously jpeg in my case but then down the bottom of this pop up window it states colour, ICC profile - should I untick this if I want it as srgb can you explain this

Thank you

If you untick this box there is no profile apended to the file. Photoshop has no idea what profile you want. If you want to save the file as sRGB from say Adobe RGB you need to go to

Edit > CONVERT to profile.

Then in the destination space select sRGB.

I'd leave the rendering engine set to Adobe, but would set the intent to Perceptual. then allow Photoshop to convert. Then Save and ensure the ICC profile box is ticked .

If you don't tick this box no profile is appended. Photoshop does not apply sRGB if the box is unticked.

So basically when saving to jpeg tick the adobe rgb icc profile yeah but would it still be a srgb file if I'm sending it to printers like this

Thanks for help

I guess my concern overall is I want the colours on screen to match the print

No if you work in Adobe RGB ticking the box will save the image with Adobe RGB profile embedded. You need to convert the image to sRGB and then save it with the box ticked.

The dialogue box you are referring to simply detects what the image profile is and displays it. If it is sRGB it will show that, If the working profile is ProPhoto RGB it would show that.

You need to convert the images to the appropriate colour space before saving in order to have it embedded in the file.

It may of course be easier to simply select sRGB as your working colour space and all your files would be saved in that automatically, saving you the problem of converting
