Hi guys'n'gals, I wondered if you could offer me any advice on printing my photos

I have a Canon iP4300 photo printer, but when I try and print out pics, the colours are never quite right, compared to how they look on screen.

The colours are normally far too vivid. I have tried printing from different programs to see if it was the prog that I was using causing the problem, but it seems the same fron any program.

Any idea's? Is there some sort of calibration I can do?

Calibrating your monitor is prolly the best place to start and the most likely cause of colour mismatch. There are a number of calibrators on the market (eg. Huey or Spyder). Loads of threads about them, do a search and have a good read! :)

First thing to do is get you screen calibrated as said above, however even with a calibrated screen both my canon printers tend to still be a bit too vibrant with color, so in your printer settings you can try reducing the colour intensity, on the main printer setting page go to colour/intensity and tick the manual box then set the intensity to somewhere around -8 and set the colour mode to linear tone, that should help a bit.

thanks will check it out when I get home :)

Just to add to the above, depending on what paper you are using if it's a well known make the manufacturer will probably have a profile for it on thier website to match your printer to give better results.

Have a look at the printer dialogue and see if there is some additional controls that you can adjust. Sometimes the default is set to vivid as this makes the prints look "impressive".

I don't know the Canon driver but there are these options in the Epson printer options.

I would also second getting the screen calibrated. You'll be surprised the difference it can make.
