Hi Guys

Recently got into photography not that long ago, posted and image up on a local website and now someone wants to buy the image.

I will be honest and say I have no idea where to start, I.e Pricing, or printing off.

Can you give me a general idea of what you guys use to print off, the person is looking for a 16x20, not on a canvas just the print.

if someone could tell me what the general charge is for this also that would be appreciated.

Thanks

1. You need a lab (tons of them out there)
2. Your image must be of high enough quality at the chosen print size and pixel resolution (often 300 ppi)
3. You need to find out how the lab print will correlate with how you saw your original on your display in terms of tonal range and colour balance.

So you have opened a can of worms. Take it one step at a time.

There is no rule for charging, and we don't know if it's a work of art or just a grab shot of some football ...

I sometimes give my prints away (if I get them from somewhere cheap like DS Colour Labs) other times I just do them at cost, but I think most of the ones on my photobox gallery have a mark up on them, can't remember much and I don't sell many. But the stuff I do isn't the kind of thing you'd have on your wall!

It's hard to advise really - realistically, how much would you be prepared to buy it for? Maybe have a look at the website of a pro who does similar work and see how much they charge and ask yourself how much you think yours is worth in comparison? Or have a look on somewhere like redbubble?
