Yes
got an epson r300, great all round printer. However my photos, compared to pro printed are flat, not colours but in gloss.
So, I guess i'm asking how to get more professional results? what paper should I be using? and any other help would be great

Glossy photo paper would be the obvious choice. Its glossy (can get matt version too) and microperforated so the ink doesn't just sit on top of the gloss.

Compared to normal paper its relatively expensive. I always use Ilford paper, but any good Canon, HP or Epson paper will do just as good a job.

They sell this stuff in Tesco now.

Oh, one more thing - be sure to choose the correct paper type in Printer Preferences. "Glossy Photo Paper" is enough - you don't need to get the exact brand!

Cheers, the paper I have at the mo is Morissons Glossy photo stuff, I guess by epson standards its cheap.
So if I splash out and get some "quality" paper will this reflect in my print?

With Epson it's important to choose the correct paper type as Gfk says. For example I have some Kodak glossy paper here but the blurb says to choose matt heavyweight in printer options.

I'm also a die hard ilford paper fan though, I get mine from 7dayshop.com You can download printer profiles from Ilford for all their paper types which improve output.

Need to order some other stuff from 7day shop so may well try the ilford paper.
I've just dug out of a cupboard some Woolworths Superio gloss and it is really quite good, in contrast I have some Agfa which is awful!!!
Cheers for the help.

I have an R300 too and I have found Verbatim's 150gsm Glossy Photo Paper to be some good stuff! (pretty cheap too!)

Ditto, I use this after Steep told me about it. You can get 75 sheets for £17.99 (double check the price) think they do a 25 sheet too and if you download the printer profile and also look at the PDF they have to show you how to setup the print dialogue, get these from ilfords website. You'll be amased at the results, I use the classic pearl think thats the one (Black box) looks exactly like a pro photo.

I have Canon printers and use Canon PR-101 Photo Glossy Paper for my prints.

I tried the cheaper stuff and the prints just didn't *POP* IMO.:)

You usually get what you pay for in this world, Its very expensive but the results are staggering.:)
