Evening,

Just a query regarding printing for a mount aperture.

I have placed an order for some prints that 8x10, they have arrived an must say i am very happy with them.

My issues is that the mounts aperture is 8x10, which means that my photos will fit just inside the mount.

What is the best way to print so that i have some overlap for fixing the photo to the mount?

Thanks for any advice.

If you are buying mounts for a specific size of print , the seller should be making sure that there is plenty of room. So if you ask for a mount for a 10x8 print, then they shoudln't be selling a mount with a 8x10" aperture.

Stick the picture to a bigger bit of card and then mount

:agree:

All 10x8 mounts I buy have an aperture of jusy short of the 10in & 8in so there is no worry of the picture falling through the aperture.

 Yes all the mount I buy have the aperture a few millimters smaller than the stated mount size

The norm is to get mounts cut to be 1/4 inch undersize - so you have 1/8th inch of the print hidden behind the mount.

Now couple this with the fact that all photographic printers (Fuji and Noritsu) will loose a few mm off all four edges - due to the way the printer works..... you'll find if you crop your image too close you will loose bits behind the mount....

Always leave a bit of "wiggle space" when cropping!

(note - if you frame a print you'll also get bits hidden behind the rebate of the frame too)

Sam i have ordered from yourselves in the past, what you recommend i do for future orders that are for an aperture of 8x10. If i choose a print size of 8x10 and upload my image then it flls that size and i don't get the wiggle room?

we let you add borders - choose superprints - and there's a menu - choose the narrowest border - its about 2mm bigger than the average mount aperture - choose a border colour to match the mount - so if its a black mount choose black paper colour so if it moves you won't see!

Thanks will bear this in mind for future prints
