I have an Epson XP-750 photo A4 printer as well as another one. Big problem it works on one Windows XP computer but not on another, and stopped working on another windows 7 computer I use for printing photo from. Strange? I spend far too many hours trying to get it to work on the computer that just WOULD not accept the Epson download. Not exactly correct it did the download ok, but whatever I tried the computer and printer just would not talk to each other. Not really tried the download on the windows 7 computer but I have an Epson XP710W working ok on that so will leave well alone. Works ok on my other Windows XP computer but that is a SATA one for those in the know, and the one it don't work on isn't, so maybe that is the problem, who knows? I gave up after about 15 hours of trying, thats even deleting every other bit of Epson data on it. believe me when I say delete its not just a straight removal as in the control panel add/remove bit, that doesn't remove what is on the computer registry as there are strands always left. This was a complete wipe out from everywhere to start from the Epson download site afresh.
Research time now I guess
The Epson XP750 I discovered is not a Windows approved printer with the windows logo not a good start me thinks. so will keep as a backup one just in case, thats if the inks don't dry out, have to think about that. The Epson XP850 uses the same driver by the looks of it as a matter of interest.
So time to think about getting a more modern one
So what did I have to consider? First of all price -next make- then size- then ink costs. I was really after a photo printer not an "all in one" with scanner etc , but trying to find anything suitable (for me) next to impossible with any make. So relented and started to look at all in one printers.
Friend of mine has the Epson 1500 printer so went to Curry's and PC world to check it out. Being an A3 printer it was huge to say the least, width alone was 616mm "around 2ft Wide", way too big for the desk with monitor and computer on it as well, so that was out of the question. Not only that both companies only had display models yet our local Curry's is one of those super size places if not the biggest in the country, typical of them, nothing in stock. Its shame really because it uses the same ink as the XP710 printer. So gave up on a stand alone printer in the end, the market tends now to be all for the "all in one" type.
Back to the drawing board as they say, I must have looked at every A4 all in one printer on the market, there are hundreds of them, but nothing that would accept the same ink cartridges that have, albeit 3rd party ones.Just one other thing I forgot to mention was many don't come with disks to program them onto computers, most are downloads from web sites. Great if you don't have the internet, I don't think!!!!
So many now also only work on Windows 7/8 and not many include from Windows XP up, just another little problem to overcome. Now maybe you can understand my struggling to find a modern printer that suited my needs.
Back to the proverbial drawing board and relooked at the Epson XP1500 As printer, Na way to big as I first thought.
To be honest I nearly gave up as it seemed no printer matched my spec. That was to reiterate- use existing ink carts I have- size-photo dedicated- Preferably A4 but A3 acceptable- not an old model due to be replaced- worked on Windows XP 32/64 right through to Windows 8 and Mac computers- finally price. In the end had to put price as the final consideration which wasn't the best thing but there you are .

I FOUND ONE
True, went on sale sept 2013 so brand new model. before I mention it it covered all my specifications except price, a little more than I wanted to spend but hey met my needs hopefully. Size? considerably smaller in width A3 printer than the Epson XP1500 by 137mm ( almost 7" to us older folks), which is a huge reduction seeing they do the same job
So which one is it your dying to know by now. Well its the Epsom Expression Photo XP- 950 cheapest was from Amazon yet again without buying the paper which I have already. Yes ticked most of the boxes , with drive disks so it seems, I needed so ordered and expecting delivery later on next week, no way am I paying extra for fast delivery only pushes product costs up. As usual the spec can be found on the internet so won't post it here.
