Currently looking at an upgrade from my Epson R300, got my eye on the Canon Pixma MP800 - would be handy to have access to a scanner even if I didn't use it very often and the ability to scan negatives would have come in handy when we had the problems getting click/boots/whoever to transfer them to CD-rom.

Anyone else got this printer? is it any good? most of the reviews I've read have been quite good.

Any printers that people want to reccomend?

Cheers

Darksaber,

Depending how much you intend to use the printer, you might want to investigate the printing head arrangement..

I bought a Epsom C86 Photo edition last year and used it for printing mostly B&W documents...When I came to print some photos off, i found the heads were blocked and theres apparently no way of cleaning them beyond the Cleaning Utility, which is this case, does not work...

On some makes of printers, the heads are part of the ink cartridge so if this happens, its just a case of replacing the cartridge rather than scrapping the printer like I'm about to do now:-( Apparently all Epsom printers use the seperate heads although i believe some are serviable while others are not...

Regards,

Pete

Hi Pete, thanks for your reply.

The new canon printer would be purely and simply for photos - I have a dell laser printer at home which I use for all documents and general printing. I've also had previous problems with an epson where I used a slightly out of date print cartridge which in turn blocked the print head and after dismantling the printer still could not get the thing to work so it was binned.

£164 from Amazon is not too bad a price for it. The neg scanner won't have the best resolution but it may be fine for what you need.

Replacement inks about £36 per set of 5

Thanks for the heads up re neg scannining.

I fancy the networking features of the 800r but not for an extra £100.

Replacement carts for the R300 are about £60 if I use genuine epson ones.

Ordered from amazon, yay.

I've seen the R800 a few times when I've been out and about shopping and always thought it was probably the bees knees.

Quite interested in the canon two black cart model and after seeing how well a HP photosmart can print with only a tri colour cartridge am willing to give canon a go - especially with the 1pl drop thingymajig.
