My canon ip 4000 printer has just gone belly up, when I purchased this I decided to not skimp on money and buy the best I could afford, I need a new printer that will print directly onto cd or dvd media.
Can anyone suggest such a printer that will not cost a fortune for replacement inks.
Thanks

Epson R220 or R300's print direct onto printable cds/dvds - I use R220s and they do a good job! pretty speedy too...and they are cheap too and Jet Tec do some pretty decent cheap(ish) cartridges.

There are proably new versions of the 220 now....I will have a look and see and edit this if I find anything :)

Thanks Jimmy Lemon, I am searching now in vain all the epson printers seem to be out of stock on svp and big pockets :(

hmm thats all I came across too - seems to be the same specs as the r220, and for £50 you cant go wrong in my opinion.

For interest sake, what were the warning signs when it started going, I have the 5000 and would like to know what to look out for!

No warning :( just went to print something and I noticed the amber light was on, I switched it off and on again and all I heard was the clunk and it seemed to jam :(
sorry

PC world was busy :) got the R265 and an extended warrany for 3 years, only a tenner :) take back if anything at all is wrong and they will exchange it.
Well done PC World

Nice one :) Now when you have installed stuff from the cd like the "Epson Print CD" software put it somewhere safe!!!!! you cant find that software online at all!!! (or at least I couldnt last time) :D

SureThing is a good application for printing CDs.
We've got some Microboard-branded HP printer at work for printing runs of CDs. The only difference really is that there's a "conveyor" for pulling the CDs under the print head (as opposed to rollers) and a funny gizmo to drop CDs from the pile on to the conveyor.
I have an R300 at home which I've printed CDs with once or twice. Ink for that from Burnmedia is £4.65 for a set of 6 Projet cartridges. (click)

Have just printed an A4 photo and am really chuffed at the result.
Thanks for the link MarkP thats even cheaper than the link I went to earlier.
Thanks again all for your input.
much appreciated

Nice one Jimmy.

That explains why I can't find any software online!

I have been packing my stuff up ready to move and now cannot find the print cd software that came with my R340. Also got myself a new pc and now cannot print onto dvd's or cd's.

Anyone know of a way to download this software online?

What software do you want? I'll upload it from my Epson CD if needs be, but I've always been able to get what I needed form the Epson website iirc.
Link for drivers & software for the R300 is here.
I bought SureThing for mine - don't think I got any CD printing software with it.

I must of had some software to print onto cd's when I got the printer because I have done it.

I have all the downloads from the Epson website but nothing that lets you print onto a cd or dvd.

Pretty sure it came with the software I need though.

I know the fella in PC World said that the ink cartridges were only partially filled but...... 3cds and one A4 size photo print and three of the tanks are already showing empty. Wow wasn't expecting that at all, glad I can get fairly cheap replacements :)
Are these epsons " Guzzlers" ?

Most new printers come with only sample cartridges .... Just enough to get you started.

My Epson R340 seems to last for ages on the carts I use .... And they were cheap in the first place.

With the new Epson printers we've been supplying at work, we've had a lot of calls about getting 1-2 pages out and then running out of ink. I think the first set of cartridges that are supplied aren't "full", but I think the Epson also has to fill an internal reservoir or something similar.
On a few occasions, we've actually had it where we couldn't get ANY pages out of the printer after installing cartridges which were reported to be empty. We sent these back to Epson and they said they were faulty.

Have just been told that the ink is only sufficient to get one started, and not to even consider trying for new ones :)#ah well thats epson for you lol.
Have ordered new ink anyway :)

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr@ non Epson inks. great delivery time yes, but inserted the new inks and they refuse to be recognised and printer is still unuseable GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
RECIEVED FROM UKDVDR

what make of ink was it Shorn? anything I have ever put it has worked for me :| It tells me that the ink I have put in isnt genuine epson ink, do I want to continue? I click yes and away I go.

Did what the little tutorial said whilst loading the ink, then when I pressed the ok button it did what it normally does but then the red light came back on and in the interface it said incompatable ink :(
I am soooooooooooo stressed :)

You checked that the number on the ink matches the number on the epson ink you are taking out? might be that they sent you the wrong ink....that or Epson have somehow managed to chip the ink for that model :( I noticed it was different to the 220 and 300 :(

The numbers match ok, but I was thinking the same, brand new printer and they may have got wise, just hope that ukdvdr are ready to accept responsibility :)

Jimmy, I wonder if I should replace all inks instead of just the three that ran out ?
Maybe not :)

With the non-Epson Projet inks I use I've had it once or twice where the printer says no cartridge or incompatible cartridge. Usually a push down at the back of the cartridge (near the contacts) makes sure it's seated properly.

Not sure how much JL pays for his jet tec, but you can get a full set of 6 for £19.99 at this place, these are very good third party carts.

Thanks :)
I think I am going to have trouble with ukdr as they don't seem to keen on replacing etc :(
