My wife was at a horse show recently and as usual "managed" :D to buy the "odd print" from the on-site toggy.
The guy was using a printer that, in her words, printed 3 layers of colour I assumed that it was R-G-B?
Anyone know what this printer is? and are they any good?
Cheers

it's a dye sub printer

see here for an explaination

i have a little canon selphy one here that does cracking little 6x4's :)

Cheers DF  I will need to read the link a few more times yet, though :D
Are they expensive to run? I use ( for the past 2 or so years)
an epson 830 that does seem "eat" the colour catridge ( one black and one colour split 5 ways)
Ta

my little selphy isn't that bad, you buy a pack containing the paper and a single cartridge.
All the magic is inside the cart and has enough colour to print the number of sheets of paper in the pack.

I've no experience of how much it'd cost for an A4 job
for that size I just stick to my epson 950 or send out to Colab :D

Thanks again DF
A quick search and I found that only(?) Hiti does a 7x5 ( usualy horse show size) and above print size
30p (inc vat!) per 6x4 print, 50p per 7x5 print & 70p per 8x6 print,
and the printer is £300!

I used to work in the key hole endoscopic surgery industry, and we used dye-sub printers all the time, for instant, waterproof high quality shots. Have a look around ebay for Sony units. I have one here, that is fantastic. I have lots of information on dye-sub and experance with them, if you have any questions just shout.

Cheers for that, looks as though I must eat my words already as I found, on fleabay, a Kodak unit that does A4
Its a interesting concept and one I am thinking about
Thanks

If you would like me to print you a sample on mine, i would be happy to so you can see results before you commit :)

Thats a kind offer thanks  Though I have seen the results as the Mrs "Brings" them home with her from horse shows ( can't fault the printing quality at least :D) and wondered what the the printer "actually" was as I had never heard of them.

Ahh right, no worries, great little things really. UV protection and all sorts all built in a speedy. Got to love it.
