Print on demand books, self-publishing

I wondered if anyone on here has ever self-published a book. A few of my fellow photographer friends have, using Blurb. But I'm looking for some alternative companies (online) that will offer the same service.

Another artist and I have been working on a art project which focuses on the town in which we live, and we would like to compile and present the final images in a book and make it available online to locals.

Blurb are good, but still quite pricey.

I have experience working with print layouts (using InDesign) so I only really need an online company that simply prints on demand.

Now whilst they're strictly accurate in saying, "Biddles is a name long associated with the production of quality printed books and product innovation" this isn't strictly the same business it was ten years ago when they still printed themselves and I had direct dealings with them - but this off-shoot has a good reputation from what I've been told by people that were employed by the original company.
