Pricing of camera's on Ebay

I think it's the way ebay works.
The more you sell of an item, the higher it appears in the listings so sellers are reluctant to end listings when out of stock as it would mean them creating a new listing when back in stock.

So to prevent sales they just hike the price up.

As above, it's to stop people buying items that are out of stock without having to take down/renew listings.

I didn't know it was a statistics thing. I figured it was cheaper than ending a listing and creating a new one which would cost more.

There is a whole industry around advising sellers about how to get their listing to the top of the ebay pages. If it's not on the first page most buyers will never see the listing. Some sellers drop the price below cost for a while just to get sales volume to push their listing on to the first page.

I've never thought about it, but this makes sense. The same thing happens with used book sellers posting absurd prices.

I've just been looking at a Nikon D610 camera bodies on EBay, why are some priced at £3000+ ? Surely none are sold at this price so what's the point in listing them.

They go for what the buyer decides. Suits me fine. I sold my D800 for more than it cost me to buy a new D800E as it's replacement.
