Are you trying to view via a usb link to the cam? I had that prob but if you get a card reader (really not expensive) you might find you can see the pictures.
I think it might be that the Raw Viewer for XP hasn't been updated to include support for the latest cameras so it can't read the raw file. The thumbnail appears because that's just a small jpeg imbedded in the file file.
Did your camera come with any software. For example i cannot see RAW files in windows, but use the Pentax Photo Browser that came with my camera to see them. Its nothing special and quite a slow program but its something.
I think the point is to get a good look at a thumbnail to be able to quickly decide if its worth opening with edit software.
There is a windows thumbnail viewer as a power toy, but you have to be running a legal copy of windows and be fully updated.
I have a jpeg re-sizer power toy which worked untill svchost made it impossible to update...now its busted, and so is my windoze......yayyy
Googles free Picasa can display RAW files and does a slideshow. I used it whilst on holiday to view the days pictures on the laptop. It is a bit pants at editing them but I did post a couple here using it. I certainly wouldn't recommend it for RAW editing
Google FATSTONE image viewer, run the prog and hey presto the fastest viewer on the market. Its a mini Adobe Bridge but without the stuff you never need.
I have a D50 and use Nikon Picture Project - I very quickly lost the cd but you can download the latest copy from Nikon providing you are registered with them.
BTW, I read recently that third party RAW image viewers do not necessarily have the same level of funtionality as the original image viewer i.e. would Photoshop be able to open and view RAW (NEF) images?
