I know this has probably been asked before but I still feel the need to ask other peoples opinions.
When you print images off, what sizes do you like?
I’m currently using a 5D as my main snapper.
There are two types of prints I would typically print off, the birthday/holiday scenario which would have a number of images. The other group would be the odd couple of shots a month that I really like.
The holiday shots I could probably do at 9x6, it’s a decent size without being to big and doesn’t require cropping.
For the odd decent shot I take, I have in the past printed at 16x12 and stuck it in one of the 40x50cm Ribba frames from IKEA. For this I have to crop the image though. Now I’m not going to frame every decent shot I take, but would it be a bit much to keep at that same size as a sort of portfolio? I tried 12x8, but it seemed a bit stretched for portraits.
For your really good stuff, do you go bigger? What’s your max print size?

When I print my holiday pics, I usually do them to 6x4 then those that deserve it to A4 and any that deserve even bigger to A3. I have a few frames in assorted sizes and also stick a set of the A4s in a slip album (actually, album is an exaggeration,it's usually a cheap display folder!) IMO,prints are the way to view photos, a monitor rarely does them justice!
 
Slightly. The A series of paper sizes is 1:1.4 (well, square root of 2!) and I shoot at 2:3 so there is a small crop. I allow for this when shooting - the little extra that appears on the 6x4 prints is a bonus! Being lazy, I quite often shoot fairly "loose" with a view to cropping - probably a hang over from the old days when I would get films developed and printed - the D&P places always cropped a little off all edges!

isnt that awkward as the 6x4 crop wont print a4 ... its 7x5, a4, a3 .. you would have to recrop a 6x4 and lose part of pic
 
A very small part, yes - as I said in post #4. The enprints are pretty much just for a slip album and as proofs to see which are worth extra work and bigger paper sizes. The larger sizes are easy to find off the shelf in the A series - harder to find 12x8 etc.

You can find 9x6 12x8 10x15 18x12 24x16 30x20 etc in most decent labs. But it is somehow more difficult to find ready made frames, however framer will frame anything to measure. I try not to worry and just crop my shots the way they have to be.
 
6x4 paper is relatively cheap and easy to get hold of, as are the A sizes, hence my preference. I'm too lazy :)blush:) to do too much messing about and trimming so off the peg sizes are best for me. Once I'm back driving, I intend to visit the Range and a couple of other places and getting an assortment of frames in various sizes - give me something to do when the weather's bad!
 
9x6 print in a nice little mount fits great in any a4 photo
