I'm a newbie to the forum and looking to display a few of my images - for family and friends in the first instance but hoping to sell later on.

My question is more basic than 'which company do you use?'. As someone just doing this for the first time, I am overwhelmed by how many different types of paper and finishes there are, and that you can not only display your photos as a framed print, but behind reflective and non-reflective glass, on canvas, on aluminium, etc.

Does a certain type of image suit a certain type of paper and display? For example, if you had a black and white landscape would you go for a type of paper that is different from a colour landscape? How would you display the image to get the best overall effect? Or would this come down to personal choice?

I saw that The Print Space offers 11 different types of paper...that is why my head is spinning!

Sorry if this is a really naive question and thanks for any help you can give me. I can attach 1-2 examples of what I would like to enlarge, if that's any help.

Hi,

I am starting out with preparing images for print myself so can't really offer any advice as such, but if possible, can you get yourself to The Print Space ? I was there on Monday and actually seeing the paper types and mount\print options really helps.

I was able to pick a paper for the prints I want, and now the next step is picking a mount or frame - that is largely dictated by budget, but seeing the various options really does make a difference.

I spent quite a lot of time chatting there, and yes, certain images will look better on certain papers, and they were really helpful in explaining that.

Thanks, Gary - yes I can get down to The Print Space. I guess I need to see each type for myself since there are so many.
