Yes
Neither of these are due for release, but in a few years something similar will be created by both major brands.

What specs do you predict for either of these models?

Nikon D4.

20mp full frame sensor
ISO 200-30,000
12 fps
double the battery life of D3

What do you think?

Bring on direct optic nerve connections, thats what I say !!! :)

What makes you want any of those, be it the specs or the bodies?

The current top range seems to be excellent and there's not that much to be improved for anything else than marketing's sake.

Technology can always be improved, and i'm sure this sort of upgrade wont be available for a good few years.

At least 1000 megapixels (sensor will be the size of a baking tray), 32" screen on the back, probably about 74.2FPS, 24bit colour depth, ISO 16million+ and it'll take 3.5" hard disks for storage.

can't wait.

oh yeah that's the nikon one, the canon one will be all that x2.

I may be a bit cynical but really who cares even the so called "Budget models" now give quality that we could only have dreamed of a few years ago and probably far outstrip the abilities of most users whilst for those who can afford them the likes of the D3 and 1D Mk3 are probably matching the quality of most medium format cameras whilst also being infinitely more flexible.Lets just enjoy what is around and deal with new models as and when they arrive

Surely increased Dynamic Range, and even better or no noise at very high ISO's as well as faster FPS, more mega pixels, and I hope, 3G uploads to your PC at home, making the need for memory cards less important.

I was on a camera course a few weeks ago with a guy who works at Manchester Municipal University and he said that they are in the process of developing something called, I think, Optimum point Technology.
It's being developed to help pinpoint cancer to enable targeted delivery to individual cells of chemotherapy. Apparently it will be able to photograph these individual cells as it will be 8 billion pixels per square inch and as with all these things it will eventually (probably 5 years or more) filter down to conventional cameras.

Don't bet on it.

192bit colour is what I'd most like to see. I've been a beta tester of a 3D app for 10+ years and they went to 64bit float per channel a few years back and images boiled down to 8bit have wonderful smooth gradients. Of course the file sizes do get very silly :(

Well look at the price of a 4gb CF card compared to what they used to be. In a year or two you could probably get a 16gb for the same price.

i think 90% of canon pros will just want canon to sort out quality control after the mess they make of the mk3 so the spec sheet for the design teem will just read
