Precise Masking Coming Soon To Lightroom

It'll be the same as PS currently, those masking tools work well for high-contrast scenes and scenes with distinct colours between subject and background but tend to need edge refinement where things are not so well defined. The video doesn't really indicate if manual edge refinement is possible

That figures, they always make features look better than they actually are don't they?

Still, I thought it looked interesting . . .

Well, I suppose they have to be seen to be doing something. Personally I don't see much use for this, certainly not in it's current guise. There doesn't seem to be much control over what you are selecting. It seems the subject selected is up to LR with no way of changing that and I can quite easily select a sky right now using a gradient mask with luminosity masking or the paint brush.

I'd much rather they introduced layers (like Capture One) and actually fixed the color profile bug where applied colour profiles are not honoured when sending the image to PS for editing. That's been a known issue for months now but still not fixed.

Yes, I'd have to agree with that. :)

I'm still trying to get to grips with Capture One and haven't really had the chance to play with the layers feature yet. However, with winter just around the corner I must ready myself for some more learning and practice with it before next year.

Looks good to me. I have Topaz Mask AI which is very effective. When Select Subject was added to PS, I initially ignored it and continued to use Topaz. I have tried Select subject a few times now and it is very effective particularly for simple subjects as in the sample and very quick. So I will usually try it first and use Topaz if PS cannot handle the subject. Of course Topaz can deal with semi-transparent objects like veils etc. It will be good to have this added to LR as I prefer to stay in Raw mode as long as possible.
