Yes
Has anyone got any knowledge about the safest way to send debit/credit cards through the post? Obviously recorded delivery but is there a good way to wrap and pack them to increase the chance of them not going missing?
Mum put her purse in my suitcase when being repatriated, I forgot to give it back and I'm now 300 miles away!

As Rich says, plus pack it in such a way as to make it less obvious, eg with card on ether side that is larger than the credit card, and maybe put tin foil around it to prevent the RFID being read?

Your bank just sticks them in the post.

I'd just call the bank, put a hold on the card and post it. When it arrives remove the hold. If not, call the bank for a replacement,.
Yes but some times the card requires "activation" before first use. Also they have looked at the costs and if it gets lost initially they will blame you, make you jump through a load of hoops and eventually might pay out accepting that the cost of secure delivery for thousands of cards is more than paying out for a few losses. All of which is different for one individual card.

Exactly. there's no risk with an un-activated card. If your banking app (or in fact your mum's) allows you to put a hold or freeze on the card temporarily, then fine, but might as well just pack it appropriately anyway. Seems the path of least risk.

Did you miss the bit where I said call the bank and put a hold on the card before posting it?

Also, I've not had to "activate" a new card for years.

FWIW I've just had to activate new Starling debit cards and Amex credit cards.

A bloke I once worked with had to send a couple of cards.

He wrapped the cards in some foil, taped the foil to the centre of a sheet of A4 and put it in the middle of a small stack of paper. His reasoning was that no crook was going to look long at what appeared to be some documents in transit. ;)

Thank you all for your replies - to explain a little more, 93 year old mum was on holiday, got ill, spent a month in hospital and we've just been repatriated.
She's in no state to do anything like deal with banks but wants to be able to pay her overdue bills and buy some food which she is up to, but trying to do something new and complicated is going to be beyond her at this stage.
I think I'll wrap them in foil, put them into a book (hey, I could cut out a section of a few pages like in a James Bond movie and hide them in there!) then RMSD.
I appreciate all your help!

go visit her, take card and take her shopping while there :-)
