Heya everyone

wondered if I could get some advice regarding file management after a shoot

Basically i do the following before any actual editing

I have a folder called originals

in this i create a folder relevant to that shoot ( mrs smith wedding/bradgate park)

I then copy all the raws into this from the card

I will then use Adobe Bridge to delete all the test shots and spoiled shots

This will then leave all the images I will take the best from.

I will then copy this whole folder onto my back up hard drive

only then will i format the card and do any editing

When I do the actual editing I will create a sub folder in my "shoots" folder again named the same as the source folder and save the edited jpegs into this.

is this the best way to go about it or am i missing something really obvious

thanks

That's similar to what I do.

I ingest card into lightroom and have it add keywords to the images. Includes camera model, customer name, location, event etc. Each job goes into its own folder within the current year folder.

I rename the folder date/customer name. My first pass through the raw files I hit p for pick, x for reject, only obvious duds get rejected at this stage. I delete rejects and move picks into a subfolder called picks. Backup job folder on 2 external drives and card is reformatted and goes back for use next job.

I do my edits in LR and export to a subfolder called tiffs. Tiffs are opened in PhotoShop for final tweaks, skin retouching, any cloning etc and the changes are saved to the original tiff. I use an action to resize and do output sharpening for print and web and save jpgs in folders called print and web. I do this into a folder called staging on the desktop so my action looks for that folder. When done I just move the print and jpg folders within staging to the original folder and I'm done.

Backup the new folder containing the edits by just overwriting the old backups. If I ever need to change something like do a black and white version, upres or do some more cloning/retouching, I just go back to the tiff with all the edits and make my changes.
