Needed to renew my photocard license. Turns out it can be done in a post office. So stood in front of a special booth (different to the one that creates passport photos). Spotted an EF-S 18-55mm lens staring back at me.

Anyone know whether they use a proper camera behind the unit?

I'm pretty sure it's some kind of Canon.

Make up your own mind if that's a proper camera or not ;)

Oi!! Cheeky!

It's definitely a Canon, probably a 1000d or similar, set up with some booth software that's a direct plugin to the API. The lighting is fixed, probably the focus too, there's probably more operator skill involved in moving the thing up and down to the correct height than taking the picture.
