Possible website re-vanp, with Zenfolio now but may change..

Good afternoon,

I have been quite happy with Zenfolio, and have found designing my own website quite easy. It also now has 4+ yrs of my own personal photos on it, wedding images, client galleries etc - so I cant see myself moving from them anytime soon for my actual storage side of things.

However... when it comes to the front end of my website, I am getting ever increasingly frustrated by Zenfolio not allowing things, and being hard to really customise. Such as page width... if you are using a standard template page no problem - it will auto adjust to the resolution of your monitor...but the standard template pages are crap.
Custom pages are the only way to really make your website your own, and you're limited to 944 pixels wide... which is ridiculous! Anything bigger than a 21" screen massive shrinks the webpage and it looks silly. On a 27" iMac it look plain ridiculous, only occupying the very centre of the page, with the rest just greyed out.

Anyway

I am considering moving my "front end" somewhere else.. but am literally clueless at anything other than Zenfolio.

Questions:

• Could I use Zenfolio to "host" my images but pull them from there to another website front end? I'm guessing this would be messy?
• I keep hearing about Word Press and Pixie-Set - but I am not a fan of this new "gridded" style layout. Are there any other sites I should check out ?

If anyone has a spare 5 minutes, I wouldnt mind some feedback on my own website - I've tinkered with it pretty much non-stop since setting it up 4 years ago... and until recently have been quite happy with it. I just keep looking at other people's websites and they look a lot more modern than mine
