Yes
I live on a newly developed estate, it's a reasonably affluent area with a lot of house worth in excess of £500K. I'm not trying to big myself up or anything..... I only live in a 1 bedroom flat which is probably one of the cheapest properties on the estate, just trying to set the scene a little

A couple of weeks ago, a neighbour had their car "broken into", I use the term loosely as he thinks he may have left his car unlocked and as a result lost his satnav. Apparently there were several similar incidents a couple of Saturdays ago.

On Saturday night I was closing my blinds around 10:45 and I noticed a hoodrat on a bike doing a lap of our car park, checking out our bikes in the bike shed. I ran to the front of the block and saw him join 4-5 others who were riding along the road checking car door handles as they went along!!!

I called the neighbourhood police mobile number but no answer so I went through the non-emergency number as I figured there was no immediate crime taking place but they put me through to control who said they'd get a patrol out ASAP.

The next morning the neighbourhood sgt called me back to see if I still needed assistance! I told him what had happened and said he'd try and get officers in the area next Saturday night to see if they could "nab" them in the act

I was very impressed by the way the police handled this, especially the call back in the morning!

Very good , they obviously had nothing better to do " like catching real criminals"

So you phoned them reporting suspicious behaviour of a gang at night.. they phone you back the next morning and then tell you they will do somehting about it next week..

Your easilly pleased :)

Do the "hoodrats" only operate on Saturday nights?

...or are the patrols only available on Saturdays?

Driving home from a late shift last year, I joined the old M10 now 414 towards the A1 at nearly 100mph. I don't condone speeding but it was late, it is a motorway, and there was no one else on it. Anyways, old bill pull me over and ask if I knew why I was being stopped. I replied speeding. I sat in back of police car as they had a little (non sarcastic!) chat with me. I didn't try to ******** my way out of it, as I figured they have heard all the excuses. I said I was driving without the required due care and attention, as I commute this route and was a bit bored. The officer said, OK well I'm letting you go this time, make sure you accelerate properly on the hard shoulder before re joining the carriageway as it is safer!

Nice one! Thanks Herts/Hemel police.

No not at all!!!

I tried to call the local police *mobile* number but go no answer so then called the non emergency number and got a response.

The local police followed up the next day.

Are you sure someone didn't p*** in your cornflakes this morning???

No not at all but this particular "gang" seem to prefer coming out on Saturday nights

If no one's reported problems at any other time, why would the police waste resources coming to look for them at time where no one's seen them?

Let's hope they don't hang around here otherwise the cops are going be wasting their time.

You're easily pleased, if I spotted a gang of scroats tampering with parked cars and phoned the police I'd be hoping they'd pop round for a wee look immediately, not phone me back the next day and offer to send someone round the next weekend

A bit less 'attitude' KIPAX, what's the point of posting in a thread just run somebody down?

My thoughts exactly!

I can understand where the OP's coming from. So often the police are criticised for the impersonal and one-sided way they deal with the public. It's nice to hear of someone receiving a good level of service and feeling that they've been looked after - it can only be a good thing.

Right for the 3rd and final time cos I'm pretty sick of the unwarranted attitude coming my way:

"they put me through to control who said they'd get a patrol out ASAP" so they did send someone round to see if they could catch these scrotes

"The next morning the neighbourhood sgt called me back to see if I still needed assistance! [because he'd spotted the missed call on the NEIGHBOURHOOD mobile that I'd tried calling BEFORE actually speaking to someone who said they'd send a patrol out] I told him what had happened and said he'd try and get officers in the area next Saturday night to see if they could "nab" them in the act"

So as for being easily please, this isn't the case!!! The police control sent someone round that night to check on things and then due to a missed call on the neighbourhood police mobile they followed up with me and are going to try and do something about it!

And KIPAX...... For someone of more mature years I'd have thought better of your behaviour to be brutally honest, the " " indicated that I was just having a laugh but I wont bother trying to keep it humorous in future! Seriously don't know what your problem is

I'll take your "attitude" if you're critiquing any of my photos but not on anything else thanks!

I think I got the tone of the OP, and thought it was worth posting thank you, don't let the *******s get you down, it's only the internet.

Well that changes things, it wasn't that clear in your original post ... yes all credit then to a positive action by your local police.

Oh well.... ya can't win em all

t doesn't help the government are getting rid of a lot of police jobs and trying to get people to sign up as special constables. "we want you to do the exact same job as the rest of the police and face exactly the same dangers only we are not going to pay you for it." Yes you can shove that up your freckle, I don't think the police get paid enough let alone sacking them and making the public do it for free.

There was one time mayny years ago where there was a childs party at the local community centre, a load of hoodrats were hanging around outside, they were deliberatly going out of their way to start trouble, kept shouting abuse at parents and trying to gate crash, so obviously the police was called when they started getting aggressive. The very next morning at 10am we got a call back asking if we still needed an immediate response.
We were shocked and annoyed at the audacity, we just said "no, we took matters into our own hands and battered the lot odf them, did more use than you lot." then hung up.

Just catching up in the OOF section after a weeks holiday, and just wanted to say my piece on this subject.

I have a HUGE amount of respect for *most* police officers. There is the occasional power-trip-aholic, lets the authority go to their head etc, of course, but in general, they are sensible and reasonable people.
As always, the minority spoil it for the majority.

I've worked directly and closely with the police in a previous job, and have a fair few dealings with them in my current job.
It's not until you spend time with officers understanding their role and position that you really appreciate what their job is about.
People think that they are there just to get them in trouble, but that's not the case.
They are also there to HELP US.
And let's face it, if you get done by them, you must have been doing something wrong! Simples!
It's the muppets that get caught doing naughty things that don't like them.

Give them a break.
If you heard a few of the stories I have, you may well have a different opinion of them.

I'm all for the police splitting a few heads open look at that lot in Tottenham.
The usual PC comments have started already.
high unemployment and poor prospects for people from a certain racial background.

NO YOU ARE MINDLESS THUGS WHO KNOW HOW TO PLAY THE RD CARD.

All those arrested should be charged with riot under the public order act.

The Riot Damages Act puts paid to charges of riot, hence it's always Violent Disorder. Bernie will explain it to you - he was in service when it was brought in ;)

Thought the RDA was where peolple / businesses claimed under.
just a matter of interest whats max sentence for riot/affray?

I know the Riot Act got replace by the public disorder act.

Specsavers would make a fortune out of some of you lot :rules:

Unfortunately they weren't quite as efficient last night......

I ended up putting a 999 call through about a car that was racing along the road into the estate then going into a nearby car park and doing handbrake turns etc at around 4am.

Didn't want to call 999 tbh but after 30 mins or so they didn't seem like they were going to stop.

The woman on control was very sympathetic when she heard the noise they were making through the double glazed window I was standing next to but said it was a very busy night in Southend and they were struggling for resources, I didn't realise about the riots at the time and I'm lead to believe that Southend Police sent units there too (and quite rightly so).

This was all fine and after what I assume was a neighbour chasing after them in his car it all went quiet just before 5am.

At 8.10 I was (rudely) awoken but the phone, it was the local police apologising that they didn't manage to send a unit to deal with the incident. The woman sounded surprised that she'd woken me up  I wouldn't have thought it'd have taken a detective to work out someone who made a 999 call at 4:30 might still be asleep at 08:00 and even so, 08:00 on a Sunday morning

Still on a positive note, she did say to always report these incidents as they are very keen to sort this issue out.

Cheeky sod! I bet your warrant number starts with a 3!

Andyhop

Max penalty is 10 years, but there's no chance of it ever being charged, and less of the that penalty. Quite apart from the Met Senior 'Management' not wanting to ruin thier chance of the next rank by admitting it was a riot, the whipper snapper Photoplod is right, it would cost them.
