How easy is it to do some portraits in the dark?

I am going to a park on the bank holiday and was thinking it might be fun to take some pictures of friends in the dark. I've got a softbox, 2 FITP shoot through umbrellas and 4 speedlights.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You will need a light for focusing if it is that dark.

easy enough, get a hotshoe mic holder and shove a torch in it (seen this done) or just get someone to hold it for you

flash will sort the rest

The chances are that if you are shooting in a park then there will be some ambient light about so you'll probably have enough to focus with.

If you are shooting in total darkness then it won't really show up in the photo that you are in the park because all the background will be black so you may as well shoot in the studio with a black background. The ideal time to shoot in a park will be around sunset when there is still natural light around which you can boost with a bit of flash.
