I decided to try our Color Efex Pro on some portraits, the effects seems to be fairly pleasing - but it's still a bit early to decide.

Whilst I enjoy all types of photography, I do enjoy portraits the most - and will be shooting a wedding next year.

I already have photoshop and lightroom (creative cloud). Are there any other processing apps you'd recommend for people?

Lightroom and CS4/5/6 should be more than plenty for your needs. The danger with buying various plug ins is that you'll end up with lots of different PP styles and worse, none of the shots look particularly natural.

I agree with the above. Nothing worse than a photographer who has no discernible style... who's work is all over the place... particularly in the same set of images. Nothing cries out "I know nothing, and move sliders around until I think it looks cool" like a portfolio that looks like it's shot by committee.
