Which paper type would people suggest is better for having portrait photos printed on?

I normally just get gloss prints but wondered if they'd look better as lustre or something else.

Depends in part on how you will use them I guess. If you are going to stick them in a frame under glass then I don't see much difference between glossy/silk/lustre. Mat or textured papers still look a bit different though. If you are sticking them in an ablum then I like lustre for normal shots and maybe mat for B&W or more arty stuff. Comes down to personal preferences a lot though.

Thanks Ian,

That was my thinking. I just wanted to confirm I wasn't missing something.

don't use gloss behind glass as it reflects a lot - luster is a better bet if you are getting machine prints from somewhere like DSCL.
