Can anyone suggest a portrait/macro lens for my D80 Nikon with a budget of £250-£300.Or do I save my pocket money and get the 105mm VR Nikon version? I`m new to Digi SLR so please don`t confuse both my grey cells with too technical a reply !!!! I went into a camera shop in Carmarthen this week to look at buying an extra battery and came out with a Nikon 70-300 VR.The Mrs. wasn`t too happy hence the £250 -£300 budget.

Thanks for that info;the 50mm f 1.8 would this be a portrait only lens and at under £100 is it that good an optic ?

Its an absolutely fantastic lens! Incredibly sharp!

It is useful for lowlight shooting, and makes a reasonable portrait lens (the only downside is its possibly a little short for portrait).

With the 105, it would make an excellent combination (short and long). Both very sharp.

Thanks Joe T ...............DECISIONS DECISIONS !!!! But the cheaper options should suffice then;and her in doors may start speaking to me again after the 70-300 VR episode.
