Hi guys,

A friend of mine has asked me to do some portraits. He wants to use them in a little of his marketing, website, brochures, facebook page etc.

He's a director of financial advising company but doesn't want them to be the 'behind the desk with pen' type portraits. what he did say was he wanted them to be serious but showing a fun element.

I know he loves his sport (golf, rugby etc) but have you guys any ideas?

I'm struggling!!

Tough one. Financial advisor - not exactly a 'fun' business! I don't think it would work for his business to be shot with his golf clubs or sitting on the bonnet of his porche! Could try an outdoor shoot with some 'financial district' or well known building in the background, or may be indoors with a flip chart and an upward graph behind him.

Put a wand in his hand and a pointed hat on his head and make him a Financial Wizard!

Ok this is tricky - money is a serious business. He may say there should be a fun element, but at the end of the day investors are looking for gravitas and trust.

I'm thinking, nothing quirky or ironic. Perhaps somewhere with polished wood chrome/reflections. Try to get a small amount of laughter looking away from and directly at the camera. Try some shots with a high key element. A light mood feeling. Get him to talk to a third party, get some jokes going and snap away whilst he talks. If you could get him to look up to you, (so that the camera viewpoint is slightly above his eye level) that is a less imposing and more welcoming.

have you thought of using a businessman's sense of humour that would be good, as customers wont understand it but will like the picture and the employee's will be laughing at the boss at this hard to understand joke.

Sometimes we have to help the client understand what message their brief will suggest to their clients - a financial adviser having fun would say to me that they are not that serious about my money - maybe this guy is thinking he'd like to look happy? But even so, I'd want to know that my FA would take my money seriously.
