Hey, I'm after a decent flash lighting kit just to get me going with interior photography, with the hope of upgrading in a year or two if everything goes well. I'd need a complete kit as I'm very new to artificial lighting and with all the bits needed I'd most definatley miss one out! Would it be better to go for flash guns or mono heads? I'm hoping to get 2-3 lights with stands, umbrellas, softbox, (some form of combination of snoots, barn doors, honeycombs etc-whatever would be more beneficial) and a trigger system.

On top of that I need a decent light meter, a reflector or two? And I need a grey/white card as I've lost mine :(

Can anyone recommend a good starter portable lighting kit? And can anyone think of anything I've missed?

Thanks!

The Lencarta Safari is your obvious budget option, but you might want to add 1 or 2 hotshoe flashes as well, they're useful for lighting small areas.

As for light shapers, you really need a selection. Umbrellas are cheap and space saving but the light is fairly uncontrolled so softboxes are a good choice and Lencarta has a large range of folding softboxes. Snoots are fairly limited for this type of use because the spread of light is fixed and the light from them is pretty uneven, a range of different honeycombs is generally a better choice. And barn doors can be useful too.

do you mean portable as is battery powered or as in small easy to carry.

I'd recomend bowens for both or if money is an obstical then the interfit Stellar Xtreme for a battery power.

Hey thanks guys, just checking them out now, I'm thinking maybe a kit of 2 mono heads with the stands etc and then maybe saving up for 2 Nikon SB900's (think thats right lol) with stands - what do you think? As for budget apologies for not being clear, I guess cheapish. I want quality but until things get off the ground it has to be done on a budget.

And when I'm looking at these kits, should I be looking for the softbox accessories or the umbrella accessories?

I think I mean portable in both areas, both battery powered and easy to carry - would that be the best option?

Thanks for all the options!
