Yes
hi all, i got an 80x80 pop up softbox from smick.co.uk but after struggling to collapse it one day, i found that upon re-setting it up it's a bit misshapen. Ie one side is a bit concave and as such the external baffle isn't completely taught. Does this matter in terms of its' usabilty or can i get away with it fine? I've been trying to bend/coax it back into shape without much luck though.

Any thoughts? Many thanks

I had that happen to one of mine (not a Smick model). The metal frame is a flat band of metal and if it becomes twisted you will suffer this effect. I spoke to my supplier and he advised me to get a pair of pliers, grab the metal band securely through one corner of the softbox (protect the fabric of the softbox with a duster/sock etc.) and twist it back into position. It took a bit of effort, but was a simple enough procedure, and it popped back into place perfectly. No signs of damage to the material and it's been perfect ever since.

This is how mine looked before the fix....

p.s. If you pinch the metal band between your finger and thumb and then run them around the ring you should find the corner which is twisted and be be able to work out which way to untwist it.

Happened to me also , not as extreme as in the shot above . doesn't affect it's use so have just left it after trying to coax it back failed . I just don't pack it away now and just flatten it instead .

thanks guys - mine isn't as severe as that but i'll give your method a try. Cheers!

Mine looks much the same, even after using plier to try to straighten it :bonk:
