Has anyone used the sig 50-500! I heard it was o-k but well within budget instead of looking for a prime 400+ etc (canon user 1d mk3, any reviews welcomed greatly)

I use the 50-500 for polo. It's fine if you have good light, which you tend to do at most polo tournaments. Anything over 270-280mm will put you at f6.3 so you'd probably be best to assume that all will be taken at that aperture.

That said, it is possible to take decent shots in light that maybe isn't the best if your camera can cope well with higher ISO. These were taken 3 years ago when the heavens opened and we had torrential rain. I had to stand under a parasol on the decking outside the clubhouse and, as it was too slippery for the monopod, they had to be taken hand held!
