Yes
One of the music teachers here was preparing some posters for the Christmas Concert this year to be told by the headteacher that she can't put them up in the classrooms because they say Christmas Concert.

She said "A Concert for Christmas" would be fine, but Christmas Concert is not.

What the hell is this place coming to? "Festive lights" in city centres and all :bang:

Its a disgrace, its PC now to the point of self censorship where we allow every one to have their own festivities and celebrations but our own.

Boo hiss and all that.

I agree about the PC madness, but I'm just not getting the logic here at all.

There is no logic involved in the process at all.

It must stem from "christmas concert" - means the concert is there to celebrate christmas, "a concert for christmas" means a concert, around christmas time.

Ri.....ght! Truly pathetic is it not?

It is, its pathetic and quite frankly soul destroying. One cannot speak their mind in this country these days without offending somebody somewhere.

Err excuse me, but I thought this country was run on the lines of a democracy, that is MAJORITY rule. well the majority of us want a traditional Christmas (I'll bet). So let all the 'others' go blow in the wind. Put another way, if they don't like it, go somewhere else

Ooo, I think that was a [Rant]. Must be turning into a moaning old git

Its been going that way for years, its just the first time I've come into contact with it first hand. Googling for things now and its all too common a practise.

"Winter concert", "Holiday tree", "Festive Tree".

I'm not religious but I was brought up a Catholic and I believe that everyone has a right to believe in whatever they want to believe in and that nobody should be able to impede or dictate in this.

I can tell you one thing, Christmas carols WILL be playing on the helpdesk this year from December 1st.

I always prefer a Non-Denominational Mid-Winter Festivity Period, myself...

working with people from many different culture, ethical and religious backgrounds, i can say that most people celebrate cristmas, muslim children expect santa on christmas eve as much as christian children.
Madness i say.

Merry Christmas to everyone when the time comes.

Kids are great, it's just as adults that we manage to mess it all up :(

I used to work at Petco when I was in university and we were not allowed to tell people "and have a merry christmas," unless they said it to us first we had to say "happy holidays."

I work for B&Q and will have to endure all manner of christmas tunes repeated over & over & over, but i love it! :)
I'm not being PC about anything christmas related. I'm christian and celebrate it and dont stop/moan about any other religion celebrating their snizzle.

I'm not a Christian but have no problem whatsoever with those that are wanting to celebrate Christmas as a religious event. It was originally a Pagan festival anyway! :)

I hate all this PC nonsense, and speak out against it whenever I can. If everyone who objected did speak out, it would go away as fast as it has appeared, however people are too scared for the most part of being accused of being racist if they dare to try to reclaim this countrys own traditions.

why is it that the only non pc festivals and events are the christian ones.......? like i cant see them replacing diwali, hannukah, ramadan (that ones really gonna cause some disturbance when we rename it "the festival of some religious material being read to someone important") and passover to something more pc, after all i dont want to feel offended by people celebrating diwali do i!

It's the "Ethnic minority" thing though isn't it. Mind you, I was distressed to hear on the radio earlier on that Pikeys/Dids/Gyppos/Travellers (whatever your own local name is for them anyway!) arte now classed as "Ethnic minorities" too. I mean, what the hell?! They are screaming that theyvare discriminated against, but surely if they want to be accepted they should pay taxes and insure their vehicles like everyone else? It's no surprise that folk have a down on them! :bat:

Aaaaargh, don't even get me started, I could rant for England :annoyed: :p .
Political threads are never a good idea though imo as someone always gets the wrong idea & in some (less well moderated forums) things can too easily get out of hand.

I did see a guy in Rapid's window putting up the first Non-Denominational Mid-Winter Festivity Period Tree though which was pretty cool - I must start buying some shiny things to go on it (if thats still allowed  )

You're obviously not referring to the b*ll*cks of the pc-do-gooders - they clearly lost them years ago. FFS though, this is traditionally a Christian country. So why the hell should my kids not be able to send 'Christmas' cards to their class mates? Bloody pathetic! And if people don't like it? Tough.

And oh yes, I would like to stand up for the rights of heterosexual able-bodied non-pensioned-off white men everywhere - we're the only minority that can't sue for discrimination!

The problem that I have and that I've had to suffer for all of my life, a very short life so far, is that everything in today’s society is geared towards the minority and not the majority. I also feel really sorry for Tony Blair because I do think he’s a good guy and does try to do the best for the country but its a fact that any policy he makes, it will go down well with 52% and rest will want to kill him but the next policy he brings out the rest love him and 52% want to kill. Its lose lose.

I hope I've not just undone my self

Couldn't agree more mate.
Also agree with what Ally said, what a bu**er of a job he must have :shake:

You're joking aren't you? Like most politicians he is self serving, arrogant and unwilling to listen to what the majority appear to want. Look at the state of education, the NHS and the pressures being put on the military as well as many other issues that need to be addressed.

Politics and religion, never good subjects for a forum!

:D :D :bang:

Anyone ever notice that it is not usually the minority person who is complaining. It is usually some very white very judeo-christian looking person saying we must not upset "them" which to me is so much more condecending and ingorant than putting up a bloody christmas tree.

FWIW, I agree. The world has gone loopy. I volunteer at the gym I go too in the daycare and at Easter time we couldn't put up the kids 'drawings' on the wall because it had the word "EASTER" on it. :cuckoo:

At the playgroup where my wife worked the kids weren't allowed to make fathers day cards because some of the kids were from single parent families, yet they were allowed to make Mothers day cards.

thats quite frankly rediculous namllihs, although saying that, you weren't making fathers day cards with pictures of people climbing on cranes with banners dressed as santas were you?

They have done the same at my daughters school. Every year I plan to complain, but......

My sons school is great on that account. If a child does not have a father or mother than they still make a card for that occasion for the parent they do have because that person is both MOmmy and Daddy. Seems to work for them.
