Polarising Filters

I mainly take shots of fishing, rivers and landscapes. Being by water, I use a polariser a lot. I currently use a Canon 30D, Tamron 17-50 lens and a relatively cheap Hoya circular polariser (the one in the green packet). I keep a Hoya UV (also the one in a green packet) on the front of the lens.
My question is that... will I notice an improvement in IQ, contrast, colours etc by splashing out on an expensive polariser? If so, which ones would be recommended and also will my Hoya UV filter have any negative effect on the resultant images?

Thanks in advance

Tim

Hi Tim - welcome to the forum.

You make it sound as if you are using the CPL and UV together. If so, try taking the UV off before you put the CPL on.

+1, don't use em both together it'll noticeably diminish the IQ

Having said that the cheaper Hoya filters are ok and I don't think you'd see a huge difference in IQ by splashing out a load more dosh, but then again I've never owned a Pro 1 CPL or similar being more than happy with the results I get from my standard but "branded" (ususally Kenko as I'm a big Kenko fan) filters.
