Polarising filter for airshows?

I have in the past.
The main issue is this is the UK, and the chances of being able to throw away 1-2 stops of light for very little gain are slim.
Also, remember the aircraft is steaming from one side of the show to the other, and you will have to constantly adjust the filter to take into account the change in light, or plan very well in advance.
In short, it's a fair amount of dosh, a lot of messing about, loss of shutter speed (albeit thats only important with jets) for not much.

I hear that a variable ND filter can work for aircraft?
