How do they work? Do you have to have a transmitter AND a receiver? Or will a transceiver work alone?

For example. I have a D80 and SB-600. Would a Pocket Wizard Plus II Transceiver communicate effectively with my 600?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but I don't get in the studio or use flash very often. :D

Why dont you use the creative lighting system CLS that Nikon have. the SB-600 is capable of being a commander unit, your D80 may also have this capability, i'm not sure as I dont use a D80, I have used the CLS system with the SB-600 and found it easy to use.

You can control 256 flash guns in diffrent banks and on diffrent chanels, and all are adjustable from the SB-600 commander flash unit.

I use the CLS system, but the D80 on-board flash has to remain up for it to trigger the 600. And I didn't think the 600's had commander? Either way, I only have one 600 and wanted something to trigger it remotely instead of the pop-up flash. That thing is annoying! lol

Hi, you need two pocket wizards to start with one for the camera, one for each flash. I just got a set from one stop digital for £250 ish a set delivered. They work as either a transmitter or a receiver (version IIs only not the originals that need one of each).

I think the D80 will fire the SB-600 remotely. The SB-600 cannot be used as a commander unit...

Yeah, the D80 will fire it, but the pop-up flash has to be up and it goes off. Although it doesn't affect the resulting image, I hate having to have the flash up. Might just have to go with the SU-800.

Sorry got confused it was the SB-800 that I had used

If you don't use the flash all that much then stick with CLS, PWs are expensive but the joy of not getting all the misfires that happen with Cactus ones made the purchase worthwhile for me (that and I got them cheap :lol:)

I got my PW's from Onestop Digital. They come from Hong Kong, but they're way, way cheaper, and they're sent by Fed-Ex, who have an amazing tracking system, and they arrived in 3 days!!!

Two...I had a coupon for DigitalRev which gave me a nice wee discount, but tbh their duty-paid price to the UK is "only" just over £200/pair

Fair play :lol::lol::lol:

Don't get me wrong PW's are good and so are Skyports, each have there Pro's and Con's. Just down to the buyer at the end of the day really, pay for the PW's or Skyports + save some money

:)

I agree, if I hadn't been able to get the PWs at a really good price I'd have gone for Skyports..

But why pay more when you can get something that does the job for less ;)
I take it you haven't seen the new VW advert then...

EDIT: Oh dear... Forgot I had done a search... Talk about dragging up and old post
