Thanks Mark
As mentioned in another thread I have just got a Canon 70D to go with my 1D4 until I can afford another 1D4 or a 7D2.
With the 70D it such a palaver to lock images.
Press view button,
Swipe with finger or twiddle the dial to go through images
Press Q button (when you find an image that you want to lock)
Tap Enable to lock
Tap back on screen
Go to next image
etc etc
There isn't a way to map a button to Lock/Protect. Obviously you pays yer money and that is one of the many reasons for having a pro body.
My normal workflow with the 1D4 is
1) View and lock in camera
2) Pop card in reader and ingest using PM to a watched folder that LR auto imports from (I previously used the Tilebarn Autocopy but it wasn't that reliable for me).
3) Crop/Edit in LR
4) Export to a different folder that PM is watching
5) Caption, number and FTP from PM.
I know quite a few people do it all in LR but I have got used to doing it the above way and like PM and I would like to see someone doing it all in LR.
So I am trying out ingesting everything in to PM, selecting, tagging, cropping, naming and then exporting to a watched folder for LR to import. Edit and FTP from LR.
I am also playing around with tethering the 70D via USB cable, then selecting and ingesting via EOSUtility. The advantage with that is I don't have the palaver of locking on the back screen and the pics transfer quite quickly (no usb3 on my laptop). There are a couple of disadvantages though. You need to be wary of the USB cable. When it is sunny it is difficult to see the images well to choose them in EOSUtility. Having said that, it is difficult on my laptop in LR as well when sunny.
What I will probably end up after all this, is just locking on the 70D and whipping the card out..
