Yesterday, I was able to "colour pop" on photoshop elements 7. Today, I am following the same procedure, and it isn't working!! What on earth am I doing wrong!!!!

Do you mean selective colouring? Because colour pop is making all the colours stand out with a bump in saturation.

What procedure are you following to do it?

when the image is black and white, and you choose which bits you want in colour.....

I am opening my image, then Layers, then choose hue/saturation. Move the sat down to -100. Getting my brush, making sure the forecolour is black, then painting where i want the colour to re-appear.
It worked yesterday...I must be missing out an element.

I just watched the tutorial again, and i don't see, to be doing it wrong..it just ain't working!

Think you are trying to use a mask, have you got a colour layer under the B&W layer, and how are you adding the mask, as they are not a standard part of Elements?

Did you save it all in B&W?

Not sure if Elements uses layer masks or not. If it does, then you need to be painting on the mask in black to hold back the unsaturated image to allow the colour from the layer underneath to show through.

If Elements doesn't support layer masks, use the eraser tool instead to rub out bits of the B&W image to allow the colour to show through.

Just had a quick go, if you are using an adjustment layer are you clicking on the mask on it i.e. the white rectangle before painting on the image, clicking on it means you are working on the mask not the adjustment layer which is what you need to do.

If you are doing selective colouring, I find the easiest way is to open a second layer, turn that to B&W and then just use the eraser tool to rub out the bits you want in colour.

Ok....will go and give these suggestions a go.

It definitely worked yesterday which is what I don't understand

OK, well, I have got the colour to come back where I want, but what i don't understand is, yesterday, I used to black the blacken uop the saturation hence revealing the colour again. Today, I have had to use the white!!

Weird!

Well, probably not weird, just me being thick!!!

Stupid stupid stupid

Not working again now!!! grrrrrrrrrr

Make sure you ar eclicking on the white box on the adjustment layer, you need to do that to paint on the mask, otherwise you are painting on the layer.

Think I have it sussed...I am using the eraser method! No doubt it won't work tomorrow!! Thanks guys!
