Can anyone tell me what this plant is,I can't find it in any of my books,it was in a wooded area by a river,it would be about 3ft tall,ta muchly,

The closed flower head on the bottom left looks like a dandelion. I have looked at the family and can't see anything like that...............so far

It's Butterbur (Petasites hybridus). The flowers are pinkish - your photo shows the seed heads. The large leaves were used in the past to wrap butter, hence the name.
