Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

With the upcoming planetary alignment, I was thinking about trying to photograph the planets. I've only ever shot the moon before using my Nikon D5100 with a 55-300mm.

I have since upgraded to a Sony A7IV. I don't have a lens with that same reach, however, I was looking into getting a telescope - what scope would you guys recommend for a beginner/hobbyist and the best adapter for going from my Sony to the telescope.

Didn’t think I had read anything about this. Seems like it’s just the planets, as usual.

Best beginner telescope is normally a Dobsonian reflector.

You'll need to manually move the telescope but it's easy enough.

We bought a Skywatcher 200p from First Light Optics.

It has a camera adaptor built in and turns a full frame body into a 1200mm lens effectively.

Great for moon photography.

For planetary stuff you may need a tracking mount and they are not cheap for a good one.

Look into the smart telescopes (Seestar S50, Dwarf 3 etc.)

That's a great shot!

Thank you for the info. I did happen to come across the Celestron NexStar, but the 8" is definitely on the pricier side.

I'll have a look into the SkyWatcher you mentioned!

Interesting, I imagined it would be lined up in such a way where they were one behind the other to some degree. As per, social media gets excited over normal occurrences
