Places to visit in Runcorn/Liverpool and surrounding areas on holiday.

I've been given the chance of a house for 2 weeks in Runcorn and i'm taking my family over on the ferry to holiday there (thanks to tesco clubcard), as we can't afford a foreign holiday (3 years running now) :'(
Can anyone recommend places in the surrounding area (150/200 miles max radius)
I've been collecting Kelloggs boxes to get in the main attractions cheaper. Blackpool, Alton towers, chessington .etc

But i'm sort of looking the lesser well known places or things to do and not too expensive.
A good clean beach to visit, outdoor adventure .etc
Also places to go if the weathers bad (as it always is over here)
I've got 2 kids (girl 7, boy 3)

There's port sunlight, ness gardens, southport, Crosby and a few zoos. Chester or south lakes wild animal park. Llandudno isn't too far either.

If you go to blackpool go to bispham beach it's quieter than central beach when the weather is hot.

New Brighton, Manchester Industrial Museum, , Canal museum Ellesmere Port. Salford Quays/Media city/Lowery Centre Imperial War museum North, Manchester (adjacent to Salford Quays)
 
You must be runcorn's first ever tourist, I'd contact the town hall , they'd throw a parade as you arrive

200 miles is a pretty big area

Warwick castle is well worth the trip, York is my favourite city about 2 hrs from Runcorn

Walton gardens is a cheap day out 5 miles away, Chester is lovely, plus Chester zoo

Albert dock in Liverpool ,

Duckmarine Is out of action though, I did hear a firm of solicitors has agreed to act on behalf of the 4000 scousers who were on board when it sank
 
Yes 200 miles is a big area as I've just discovered.
Living in N.Ireland i have no concept of distance as everything is an hour away :lol:
Visited a lot of places mentioned so thank you.
So much more to do than back home and they are all far better setup (far larger pool of people)
Back home tomorrow so probably be off to Walton hall today.
Been very lucky with the weather, going foreign couldn't have gotten us better weather.

Do they still have the archer scaring the kids with tales of death and battles

My kids loved his archery display and tales of doom
 
Assuming you'll have your camera with you - Runcorn Bridge at night. From both sides of the river, though you'll have to study the map to get south of the river. Get to where the canal and river run alongside each other, when it's dark. You'll have to shoot through a metal fence but that's the easy part. Good shots to be had there.

Daytime - go to new Brighton for Fort Perch and the lighthouse. The (yawn) iron men at Crosby. Nothing worth going to Southport for - I live there and it's now a place for scousers to get drunk in on a Bank Holiday. Liverpool itself is well worth a visit anytime. Go to the Cathedral on a Thursday night and watch the sunset over the sea from the top of the tower. We were there last night. During the day it's full of good museums that will keep the kids and SWMBO happy. Photogenically it's a dream.

Go to Llandudno and take the cable car to the top of Great Orme. Even go to Rivington near Chorley and explore the extensive ruins. There's a Go Ape there for the kids of all ages.

Manchester has IWM (free) and lots of other stuff.

So much within reach that you won't fit it in. Fancy a night's shoot? PM me.
 
Heading home later today, never took my Nikon with me, only my wee nex with 18-55 kit. The Mrs minimises the creative photo opportunities :'( and I find both the nex and lens limiting.
