Afternoon all. Apologies if this has been covered in the past, however I can't find anything on search.

I am looking for an economic way to display images as place mats. As far as I'm aware I have two options: (1) Have the image printed directly onto the mat, or (2) Have a transparent mat that a normal print can be inserted into. (There is a 3rd option of printing to heavy paper and laminating, but that's a little too economic!). Obviously both methods have their pro's and con's, however I'd be happy with either so long as it doesn't cost much.

The cheapest direct printing onto the mat I've been able to find is £4.99 each, from some random online company. I'll not name-check them, as I think that's quite expensive.
The cheapest insert style mats I have found so far are from photomart.co.uk, and are better priced at 5 for £15.94.

For the record, I'm looking to have a minimum of 9 placemats with a different image on each.

Can anyone suggest either a better method, or a cheaper alternative?

Thanks.

Is there nobody out there who has printed placemats in the past?

I would suggest a placemat which is a slip in arrangement , rather than straight printing, as I would be concerned with the image getting damaged or not standing up to the heat that could go on it.

I have some placemats that we made purely to use over christmas, they were printed and then laminated, we have now had them for 10 years but bear in mind they are only used over the christmas season, however they are now getting a bit moth eaten, mainly caused by my youngest boy putting them in the sink to clean them when he was 4 :), we used some better quality pouches (Morane) and used 125+125 micron, so I would say it depends on how long you want them to last. to make them last longer cut your picture down slightly so you get more glue area around them where the pouch will seal together to help seal it better from moisture, it would pay to put a little sticker on the back saying something like "wipe clean only" .
